Research just published in Harvard Business Review has given an insight into how boards deal with cybersecurity. They found that only 68% said cybersecurity was discussed by the board regularly or constantly and 9% said it wasn’t something their board discussed at all.
In terms of what the Board’s actual role was when it came to cybersecurity there was no clear consensus. 41% thought their role was to provide guidance to operating managers or C-level leaders was seen as the board’s role by 41% of respondents, and 23% said the Board was simply on standby should they be needed. 23% also said there was no board plan or strategy in place.
If you’re on a Board of Directors or feel your Board would benefit from knowing more about what their cybersecurity role should be, this article outlines some smart questions you could start asking.
